The awards are judged by a panel of industry leaders and experts.
The judging is a rigorous two stage process including pre-scoring to determine shortlists and a judging meeting where entries are discussed and evaluated in detail to decide the winning entries.
Judges will access online a selection of entries and supporting material and will read and score each entry as per the judging criteria. All pre-scores will be returned and then collated by our events team. The highest average scoring entries in each category will create the shortlist.
There will be an online judging session hosted via video conference to select the winners. The panel will discuss the top scoring entries (the shortlists) and will identify a winner for each category.

Ben Backwell is a leading commentator and strategist in the renewable energy sector.Prior to joining GWEC, he was a Managing Director at FTI Consulting, one of the world’s largest advisory firms, advising companies in the clean energy sector on strategy, communications, and government affairs, including work on a number of major M&A transactions. Ben is the author of two books on the wind industry as well as a number of reports and white papers on power markets and policy frameworks. His book Wind Power, the struggle for control of a new global industry,” has been described as the “definitive”story of the global wind industry.
Olivia Breese is VP and Head of Portfolio Development and Strategy globally for offshore wind at Ørsted, the renewable energy major and world leader in offshore wind. Olivia’s current responsibilities include strategy, innovation, business development and Ørsted’s growing green hydrogen business. Olivia has been at Ørsted since 2012, leading the commercial and market development teams delivering Ørsted’s vision of a world which runs entirely on green energy beyond Europe and into the US and APAC.
Prior to joining Ørsted, Olivia held other roles in the renewable energy sector focussed on the development and project financing of renewable energy assets worldwide, at Linklaters LLP and at RES Group.
Tanya Davies, Head of Business Development – Northern Europe manages the development teams for Innogy’s onshore wind farms across the UK & Ireland, Nordic countries and Baltic states.
Tanya played a key role in securing Innogy’s financial investment for five onshore wind farms across the UK; the capital investment of which amounts to over £400 million. This investment secured green jobs within the business and created or supported thousands of construction role opportunities. Tanya was shortlisted as Business Green Leader of the Year 2018 and nominated for the Powerful Women Campaign in 2019.
Specialised in structuring financing in the energy sector, Olivia is the founder of boutique advisory Kreen Ltd, who accompanies developers, turbine manufacturers and investors into building long-term relationships, entering emerging markets in regions including Central Eastern Europe, Latin America and Africa, and developing a strategy for development. Olivia is a strong supporter of diversity and innovation.
Giles Hundleby retired from BVG Associates in 2020 after 6 years as a Director there. His responsibilities included leading the analysis and forecasting of levelised cost of energy (especially for offshore wind), strategy, and market and business development.
Prior to this, he accumulated 30 years of design and development experience with engineering consultancy Ricardo, having graduated as a mechanical engineer from Oxford University in 1984.

Stephen is the Head of Energy & Natural Resources in MUFG’s Structured Finance Office for EMEA based in London. As such he leads both the Power & Renewables and Natural Resources sector teams that specialise in lending and providing market leading Financial Advisory services. He has 20 years of project finance and syndications experience with a focus on advising, structuring and arranging project financings across a variety of sectors.
Before joining MUFG, Stephen was Head of Renewables Project Finance at Barclays Plc.
Stephen is a qualified Barrister and holds Bachelors and Masters degrees in Law and International Commercial Law.
David Jones has spent more than 30 years in the power and renewables sector and has actively participated in around 100 investments made by both strategic and financial investors in the sector. Until December 2017 he led Allianz’s renewable energy investment platform which he created in 2004 and through which over €4bn had been invested in wind and solar assets in Europe and North America by the time of his retirement. In 2018 he created Green Impact Investors, a company through which he invests in and provides consultancy services to businesses with a core sustainability component. He is a Senior Advisor to Asterion Industrial Partners & Shell New Energies.
Anne Lapierre is global head of the energy practice at Norton Rose Fulbright leading over 1000 strong teams of energy lawyers.
Norton Rose Fulbright is recognised internationally as a market leader in the renewable energy sector and has taken a leading role in the development of the wind energy industry across the globe.
Throughout her 25-year career, Anne has specialised in first of its kind, groundbreaking wind energy projects. She advised on West Africa’s biggest onshore wind project, advised on multiple acquisitions and investments into offshore and floating offshore wind projects and companies, as well as multiple wind energy project financings. Anne sat for 12 years at the board of France Energie Eolienne (FEE), the French wind association.
Anne is top ranked by several international legal directories such as Chambers, Legal 500 and Best Lawyers for Energy and International projects.
John is a group director of AqualisBraemar responsible for marketing, BD and ESG and is also a principal consultant and director at OWC, an AqualisBraemar company, and has been in renewables for the last 12 years. Originally a marine engineer John has developed a leading profile in offshore wind, started and established two business units in renewables and until recently led the business development and marketing of OWC before transitioning to a group role.
Before joining OWC john was Head of Renewables (Europe) for Bureau Veritas and previously was a company director of two other engineering companies.
Dominik Thumfart is a Managing Director and Global Co-Head of Origination, Transportation, Infrastructure & Energy, on Deutsche Bank´s Global Credit Financing Solutions platform. In this role, Dominik leads origination of structured credit opportunities with institutional investors (particularly the leading infrastructure funds globally) and a select number of strategic investors (including renewable project developers, independent power producers, and asset managers and operators of transportation & logistics, telecom, and health care infrastructure assets).
Prior to joining Deutsche Bank Group in November 2008, Dominik spent fifteen years in mostly structured finance roles at Citigroup, predominantly in Frankfurt, London, New York, and Vienna. He was made a Managing Director in 2004 and between 2004 and 2008 was the EMEA Business Head of its Asset Finance Group, Global Markets, based in London.
Dominik holds a Master and a Doctorate in Business Administration from Wirtschafts universität Wien (ViennaUniversity of Economics and Business Administration) and a Master of European Management (CEMS) obtained through his studies at Escuela Superior de Administración de Empresas (ESADE) in Barcelona.
